Before going over them in fine liner, i annotated the drawings to help me get an idea of the layouts and why some appealed to me the more than others. This allowed me to get a clearer gage on what i wanted my own Gig Poster style to be similar to.
After annotating and using the fine liner, I then placed the scamps into photoshop where i added colour into the basic outline. I did this by altering the image levels slightly, going to 'image', 'adjustments' and them 'levels', using the gage to alter them. I then went to 'image', 'adjustments' and 'threshold' to create a purely black and white image. This would allow me to create the basic outlines for the scamps.
I then used the 'paint brush' tool to fill in the colour (with the back outline layer being on top, so i could still work with it easily). I brought up the original Gig poster to the side and tried to get the colour choice as close as i could, changing the tones and hue to get it to a perfect match with the original.

This showed me the colour schemes they used, as i had to work step by step adding colour. It also helped me understand the main colour schemes i thought worked well, and which combinations help give off a certain theme or idea.
That was how i did all my scamps until the Iron and wine bear Gig poster, as i had to use the 'overlay' tool to get the correct effect. I did this by separating the bears into their own layers, with each having its own colour. Then i grouped them and used the overlay option to allow the colours to blend into one another. To finish it off i lowered the 'opacity' of the bears so it would be slightly transparent like the original and to make sure it wasn't effected placing the background colour in, i used the 'eraser' tool to remove the background colour from behind the bears.
By doing these scamps, it helped me have an understanding of good colour combinations to use, setting a particular theme or mood to the gig poster. It also allowed me to take apart the gig posters individually, to understand the way in which its laid out and presented to signify a certain feel to the poster.
